Gold Award Celebration
On the evening of Sunday, June 9, Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast will honor young women who have earned Girl Scouting’s highest honor for its girl members — the Girl Scout Gold Award. The reception will take place at Norfolk State University. The Girl Scout Gold Award is achieved by girls who complete rigorous leadership projects through an individual, 80-hour, community based project. Girls address the root cause of an issue they are passionate about, create a sustainable change and demonstrate leadership through educating and guiding others. Nationwide, less than 6 percent of eligible Girl Scouts earn the Gold Award.
The scope of Girl Scout Gold Award projects vary widely. Representative Gold Award projects this year include: a summer volleyball camp for youth girls in Chesapeake; a Nansemond River High School beautification project; an outdoor learning space for children and their families at the Virginia Aquarium; a horse washing station at Northwest River Park, and a music outreach program in Poquoson.
This year, we are extending an invitation to all Girl Scout alumnae who have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award or its predecessors, including the Golden Eaglet, Curved Bar Award and First Class award, to help us celebrate this year's Girl Scout Gold Award recipients.
Girl Scout Gold Award recipients can attend for free with three guests. Additional tickets are $20 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets email marilynr@gsccc.org. or call (757) 548-9438. Tickets can be purchased online here.
