Nearly 400 guests attended the Samoa Soiree presented by Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center in Norfolk on February 8. At the event, top chefs in Hampton Roads created unique desserts and appetizers using Girl Scout Cookies as key ingredients.
The culinary delights were judged by area celebrities, including food writer Patrick Evans-Hylton, Daily Press performing arts and food writer David Nicholson, host of Afternoon Drive on WWDE-FM Don London, senior vice president and retail manager for Old Point National Bank Laura Calvert, owner of Brownies and S’more Connie Weis, Veer Magazine food writer Marisa Marsey, and WVEC Anchor Vanessa Coria, who also served as the mistress of ceremonies for the evening.

Judge’s Choice for Favorite Dessert- Mini Baked Alaska with Thin Mint Ice Cream and Marshmallow Pavolva Merengue by Hogarth’s Bar and Bistro in Williamsburg
Judge’s Choice for Favorite Hors d’Oeuvres- Savannah Smiles encrusted Goat Cheese Truffle by 80/20 Burger Bar in Norfolk
Judge’s Choice for Best Presentation- Samoas Donut with Black Garlic Ice Cream and Torchon of Foie Gras with Thank U Berry Munch Crème by Atlantic Shores Retirement Community in Virginia Beach
Judge’s Choice for Most Creative Use of a Girl Scout Cookie- Dulce de Leche cookies topped with candied, smoked bacon, spicy pecan-coated boursin cheese and finished with dulce de leche and sea salt by BRAVO! Cucina Italiana in Virginia Beach
Judge’s Choice for Best in Show- Key Lime Samoas Tart by Hummingbird Macarons in Chesapeake
People’s Choice for Favorite Hors d’Oeuvres- Savannah Smiles Ceviche Shrimp by Karnage Asada food truck based in Suffolk
People’s Choice for Favorite Dessert- Key Lime Samoas Tart by Hummingbird Macarons in Chesapeake
Chefs from Cotton Southern Bistro, Freemason Abbey, Gatling Pointe Yacht Club, Hell’s Kitchen, and Small’s Smokehouse and Oyster Bar also participated in the event.
Live music for the evening was performed by the Jim Newsom Band. Guests also bid on over 40 items in a silent auction, including travel getaways, spa packages, original artwork and more.
All proceeds from the event support the Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast Opportunity Fund, which provides financial assistance to girls whose families need help with membership, summer camp and program fees.
